On Your Mind

On Your Mind.
On Your Mind is a picture holder bursting out of the top of your or anyone else’s 3D-scanned and printed head to hold memories that you hold dear, and remind you of what is important.
For this project, the class was asked to create a 3D printed product using MAYA animation software to create the digital form.
The premise of this product is the way we display cherished photos, whether it be friends, family, romantic partners, a meaningful holiday destination, or a family home. These are memories that we hold with us that stay ‘On Your Mind’, this project is a physical representation of that, with a picture clip bursting out of the top of your miniaturized head, showing what you think about and possibly reminding yourself what's important to you. An alternative use of this concept is gifting your head to someone with their picture attached to show you are thinking of them.
To create the form, I had my face and shoulders 3D scanned, cleaned up the scan, imported to MAYA, converted the volume to a particle cloud, created an upward rotational force to interact with the free-floating particles on top of the head, chose what frame I liked and exported it for 3D printing.
